The Methoxyacetic acid use and Methoxyacetic acid toxicology

Uses
Methoxyacetic acid can be used in organic synthesis and biochemical research.It can also be used for resin and paint solvents.While,it is usually tested for reproductive toxicity,the subject is Swiss CD-1 mice. It is clearly toxic to the reproductive processes,and this phenomenon is appeared in male and female.When it is at the high dose level (0.4%),the both sexes can be affected.Besides, methoxyacetic acid has effects on gene expression in testicular Leydig cells,and this is very important to the germ cell survival ,and male reproductive function.It can be used as an anti-icing additive in fuels and aircraft de-icing fluid.
Toxicology
Methoxyacetic acid is the
major metabolite of ethylene glycol monomethyl ether.In fact,it is a teratogenic toxin. In animal experiment,it shows methoxyacetic acid can cause widespread toxicity which is reproductive and developmental toxicity.Throught the toxicity experiment,we can find:
1.Methoxyacetic acid can increase
the protein-protein interactions of skeletal proteins in a concentration-dependent manner (P < 0.001)
2.
Methoxyacetic acid can increase the rotational motion of spinlabeled terminal galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine residues
3. Methoxyacetic acid has nothing to do with the lipid bilayer fluidity
In conclusion,methoxyacetic acid can lead to teratologic toxicity without interacting lipid components.
