Description:

1,3-Diphenyl-1,3-propanedione (dibenzoylmethane, DBM) is an ambrosial 1,3-diketone acquired of acetylacetone (acac), area both methyl groups in acac accept been commissioned by phenyl groups. It is a white solid melting at 7778 °C. Similar to acac, DBM exists in two tautomeric forms, with the keto-enol calm of DBM alive acerb appear the enol form, decidedly in non-polar solvents such as benzene. This is the aftereffect of the adherence of the intramolecular hydrogen band in the cis-enol anatomy which is added resonance-stabilized by alliance with phenyl rings. Due to its top photostability, derivatives of DBM such as avobenzone, accept begin applications as sunscreen products.
