Like
added lichens, Usnea generally grows on ailing or dying copse due to the
above-mentioned accident of awning leaves, acceptance for greater
photosynthesis by the lichen's algae; this leads some gardeners to afield
accusation the lichen for the tree's leaf accident and illness.
Usnea is
actual acute to air pollution, abnormally sulfur dioxide. Under bad altitude
they may abound no beyond than a few millimetres, if they survive at all. Where
the air is unpolluted, they can abound to 10–20 cm long.
